In light of our current statewide stay at home order, we will be holding our Hawaiʻi History Day State Fair virtually. In addition, NHD announced this week that the National Fair will also be held virtually. The health and well-being of our community is our primary concern. The following key dates reflect the adjustments we have made to the rest of this year’s History Day season. The Hawaiʻi History Day team will hold a virtual informational teacher meeting on Friday, April 3 . For more details, please go to our Registration for State Fair page. For state qualifying projects, the due date has been extended to Friday, April 17 . All project materials must be submitted by then. The Hawaiʻi History Day team will host a virtual award ceremony to announce community awards and qualifying entries for nationals on Friday, May 1 . We thank you all for your flexibility and patience as we creatively come together to navigate and bring meaning to this new virtual world. The theme is chosen for the broad application to world, national, or state history and its relevance to ancient history or to the more recent past. The 2019-2020 theme is Breaking Barriers in History . The intentional selection of the theme for NHD is to provide an opportunity for students to push past the antiquated view of history as mere facts and dates and drill down into historical content to develop perspective and understanding.
